COVID-19 has been becoming the most common topic that people are talking about all over the world. The December 2019 coronavirus outbreak beginning to affected people’s lives the way that people never imagined. Also because of this pandemic situation, many countries asked people to stay at home in order to prevent the infection. Many countries asked people who have potentially come into contact with the infection to isolate themselves at home or in a dedicated quarantine facility. In addition to that the cities which are got more corona patients declared a curfew period. Some countries are lockdown due to this critical situation. This pandemic situation affects countries in different ways, also to the people. In this article, I am going to consider the psychological effects during quarantine and the reasons behind it. There are so many negative psychological impacts that have been reported in this period. Such as post-traumatic stress symptoms, confusion, depression, and anger. On the other hand, abusive cases and crimes are also increased. Those are the negative effects, those things are happened because of various reasons.

Quarantine is the separation and restriction of movement of people who have potentially been exposed to a contagious disease to ascertain if they become unwell, so reducing the risk of them infecting others.

The quarantine duration is so long and people had to stay at home all the time, they lost their freedom. Financial loss is the main thing which is able to give a hard time to most, people lost their jobs and due to that they are mentally broken so it is difficult to regain their confidence back. Also, there are two kinds of people who live in the world, those are introverts and extroverts. Even though introverts are good at handling this kind of situation, extroverts maybe not. It is not their lifestyle that kind of people need to go out and enjoy while talking with others. So they suffer from boredom so some of the can depress and anxiety as well. Some researchers have suggested long-lasting effects.

Here are some stressors which are identified by researchers during the quarantine.

Stressors during quarantine

1.Duration of quarantine

2. Fears of infection

3. Frustration and boredom

4. Inadequate information

5.Inadequate supplies

So those are the negative psychological effects during this quarantine period, but there are some positive effects as well. As every coin has a double side, in every situation there are pros as well as cons.

Positive psychological effects

As I mentioned earlier even though extroverts might have a hard time, introverts are might be able to enjoy their time. Literally, everyone is busy with their work all the time and they have no opportunity to talk with their loved ones or spend the time with them. So according to my opinion, I think some people are having a great time with their family and they got a chance to understand each other and strengthen their bond with them. Children can talk with their parents who work all day and play with them, it is something that child hoping for. Also, students also got time to learn new things, and there are so many inventions that are happening during this time. On the other hand, most importantly due to busy lives people lost their mental relaxation so during this period they are also able to gain it again.

There are so many articles about this topic, and so many researches are already done. So if you are interested in this more you can refer the following review paper for more details.
